Educating the Youth
The NCSSM SEEC chapter is in the process of launching a novel environmental education program that we hope to spread around the Triangle and across all of North Carolina. The program was first implemented at E.K. Powe Elementary, a local underprivileged school situated in Durham, NC. There, NCSSM students have educated fourth and fifth graders on topics spanning from renewable and nonrenewable energy to the causes and consequences of climate change and what humans can do to stop conditions from worsening. With a comprehensive educational curriculum currently in the works, SEEC hopes to begin the process of spreading this program to multiple elementary and middle schools in the Durham/Chapel Hill area next year.
